This week was really good! We had our first real missionary experience on Wednesday when our district took the bus system (which was an adventure in itself) to some plaza in the middle of Sao Paulo to give away copies of the Book of Mormon! Each of the 10 of us got 3 copies, and we handed them all out, so we were pretty happy. At first it was kind of difficult to just walk up to people, but it got a lot easier and our Portuguese wasn’t too bad! Well, that or the people were really patient.
Then yesterday a bunch of missionaries went to the Policia Federal to get our visas confirmed or something official like that. We spent a long time just hanging around in line and saw a few minutes of the Olympics–I’ll just assume that the US is in the lead for the medal count!
So we’re now more than halfway through our time in the CTM! It feels like we just got here, but we’ve also learned a lot. On Wednesday, a new sister arrived after 4 days in Provo, and since she’s the first sister to arrive since our week, they had to put her with us so she could have a companion! I guess one or two more sisters are supposed to arrive this week, though, so it will probably be temporary.
Our district is practicing “Abide with Me, ‘Tis Eventide” (well, actually “E Tarde, A Noite Logo Vem”) to sing at the devotional on Tuesday! I think we actually sound pretty good. We found out yesterday that the speaker that day will be a visiting General Authority from Salt Lake, so we’re going to be practicing a lot anyway! haha.
Happy Valentine’s Day! I have to say, I have no idea if they celebrate it here. Shockingly, it’s not really a big deal at the CTM…
Other than that, things are pretty normal here! Speaking lots of Portuguese, having lots of classes, eating lots of rice and beans (but no popsicles, Mom!).
Talk to you next week!
