It’s hard to believe that after nearly five months of waiting, Craig is officially “Elder Maughan”. In less than 24 hours, he’ll be on a plane to São Paulo, beginning his two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After studying at the missionary training center there for six weeks, he’ll head to the coast and the city of Santos, where he’ll spend the rest of his mission.
Last night, friends and family came to our home to say goodbye to Craig and wish him well on his mission. We really appreciated the support from our wonderful extended family, great teachers and church leaders, and dear friends, including some people who have known Craig since the day he was born! In preparation for the evening, we had a fun time making this map showing the mission location of each of our four children. Melissa’s mission pin is not to scale. 🙂 But you get the idea.
Tonight, all three return missionary siblings (and one RM spouse) said goodbye to Craig in a Google Hangout. It was great to hear all the advice shared.
Tomorrow, we pack a few last minute items, and then it’s off to the airport for Craig to catch a 5 pm flight to São Paulo, via Detroit. (Yes, Detroit!) We are excited for him to begin this new adventure as he serves the people in Santos, Brazil, and know that he will be a wonderful missionary.
